Attention non-artists who commission artists: don’t fuckin do this???
Actually had someone do this to me too. Was doing a art stream, it took me over 2 hours to do his inked commission, he got a refund cause ‘it took too long’ that he figured I wasn’t going to do it after I gave him the file.
Don’t do this. Do not.
I’ve had this happen to me with a $350 comic I had already finished it, it was full color, 6 panels and had a full bg in every panel. I was lucky in that I didn’t spend him money yet, but it left me without funds. I’ve also had the above happen to me as well.
Don’t do this shit to artists. We’re people too. Drawing for you is more than a hobby. It’s a job.
Use Paypal Invoices.
I cannot stress this enough. That shit helps A LOT when it comes down to Paypal refunds/disputes.
There’s a description box that let’s you put in what the product is/how long it’ll take/yadda yadda, and then there’s another little memo box that only you and paypal can see where you can say it’s a digital commission and doesn’t require shipping (So Donald Mcfuck can’t say that they never got their commission).
And there’s also a box for your Terms & Conditions where you can say, if you have any conflicts/want a refund – email me, or you can actually tell the user that this is a digital commission and they won’t be getting a hard copy of it.
ARTISTS. PLEASE USE PAYPAL INVOICES. it will SAVE you. And to: the people who do this to artists – Fuck you. It’s okay if you change your mind and want a refund. But freaking TALK to us and let us know what’s going on. Let us WORK with you.
ALSO A HUGE TIP: Invoices paid will automatically set up a shipping notice which, if not fulfilled, can land you in SERIOUS hot water with PayPal. Since a lot of artists don’t print and ship the commissions, this is a huge problem.
However! Totally manageable. Just go to your PayPal, scroll down to find Seller Preferences
>> Shipping Preferences
>> Display Ship Button. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Then you’re all set!
As a big supporter of artists, don’t you ever fucking dare fuck over an artist like that. Like don’t. And if they take their time to do a good job, don’t shit all over them for it! Don’t be a fucking ass hole. Just don’t. These people put a LOT of work and time and effort into their artwork. Just don’t be that guy. Often times these artists aren’t even getting what they deserve in compensation.
I am very grateful my customers have been good to me, but I’m spreading the word.
New York, a chill April night in1992 – the years when a number of overpowered, overhormonal young adults made their lives in the shell of Murderworld.
Location: East Village, in the thronging mass outside of CBGBs.
Rictor rocked on his feet as inside, Henry Rollins shouted, bass thudding against the walls.
He glanced up at the big redhead beside him, ‘Star’s long hair pulled in a ponytail, silver eyes darting around at the crowd.
“Ok, this isn’t like the dance club.” He soothed, pushing open the door. “Nobody’s gonna grind up on you, amigo.” Ric added in the sort of voice that implied he’d do his damndest to get there first.
The floor was a sea of moshing punks, the air was thick with the scent of booze and sweat and he took a deep breath. “You can do this, ‘Star. I’m right..”
But Shatterstar was gone. His first instinct was that the big man had bolted for the relative freedom of the street. But then he saw the flash of scarlet as ‘Star dove into the crowd. At first, he was relieved. So, SO relieved.
The mojoworlder was grinning. “RICTOR, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE FUN!” He shouted over the noise.
And then the first person went flying. And then another.
“COME JOIN ME IN THE FIGHTING PIT!!”
Rictor covered his face with a groan. Another place he could probably never go to again.
i’m not hip to most of the current x-books drama, but i’m busting a gut to the idea of 616 logan coming back, and someone (probably kitty) has to explain the last 3.25 years to him:
kitty: okay so, with your family, laura and daken are getting along now and we’re pretty sure daken’s mostly stopped being terrible?
logan: …
kitty: and laura has a clone now, so congratulations on being a dad again, her name is gabby –
logan: …
kitty: and i think deadpool helped come up with her superhero name? no, wait, daken did – and it’s honey badger. either way, gabby and deadpool are friends.
logan: …
kitty: oh, and daken’s like, bobby’s queer nemesis now? there’s a fair amount of sexual tension.
logan: …?
kitty: oh, right, you missed that too: bobby’s gay and came out while you were gone.
I take for granted that some things should go without saying because I’m Fandom Old and some people haven’t seen the things I have. So for those who are unfamiliar with this stance-
Put it away. Don’t come back. Don’t think about it again. If it’s really bothering you, inform them that they need to tag that kind of material. That’s what the tagging system is for.
And especially, I can’t believe I’m saying this- especially do not attempt to report them to the copyright holder. At best, it’s a waste of time.
At worst?
IP holders have a really tenuous relationship with their fandom. I can guarantee you that they are aware of what a headcanon is and I assure you that they are aware of some of the worst. They try their best to ignore the worst ones. It is, in general, not worth it to laser-focus in on a single private person’s non-profit projects in relation to your brand.
But let’s say you get what you want- you alert the copyright holders of the offending person and you get their work scrubbed from the Internet. You won!
You have not only opened a can of worms, but you have crashed into the front window of a tackle shop.
There is now precedent for the IP holder to investigate further. And please understand that the author of a series is not always the IP holder. Sometimes its the production company that has the final word on what is libel and you may not agree with the production company. So your fluffy queer coffee shop AU may in fact be in danger as well.
I know it sounds far-fetched, but I’m telling you that every generation of fandom has a story about their favorite author filing a C&D and threatening to sue twelve-year-olds for copyright infringement, or a corporation deciding that they didn’t like certain content.
Do not give them that inch. I don’t care how awful the headcanon is. It is not worth it.
If a fanwork upsets you, then find one that does not upset you and put all your energy into supporting the one that you like. And speaking from a realm of experience- a writer is so much more likely to quit writing if they receive no encouragement. Filing a C&D will only fill them with spite, and they will continue writing if for no other reason than to piss you off.
Win-win: support an artist you like and avoid a spite-write.
Please don’t take us back to the 90′s and early 00′s. Those were dark days.

You may have been the NightMight pioneer! I feel like yours is the first stuff I saw with those two. You never do know what’s going to catch on. But that ship is pretty much built into the storyline already. I’m surprised there isn’t more art and fic.
