  • one making awful breakfast for the other and the other eating it because they appreciate it that much
  • one putting their ridiculous music on in the car and singing along while the other sits in the passenger seat with their head in their hands
  • the two of them going down to the beach and one getting sunburned really badly so the other slathers them with aloe gel when they get home
  • one getting home from work later than the other and stretching out on top of them like a big lazy cat while they sit on the couch in front of the tv
  • one inexplicably bringing home an animal and refusing to drop it at the shelter so they and the other have to take care of it
  • the both of them going out to a park and getting ice cream to sit with and eat on a bench
  • one sending memes to the other while they’re at work so much they turn their phone off in exasperation
  • one giving the other their jacket and not getting it back from the other until it stops smelling like them

What’s going on?

Peter David (writer of All New X-Factor) announced that the series will be cancelled at issue #20 because sales are low. (source) There are a great deal of people who adore this comic, and we want to share that awesome with everyone else. This is a campaign to lift that cancellation and try to renew the series.

What is being done?

If you care about All New X-Factor as much as we do, we urge you to take action. We are planning on setting up times to attempt to get #SaveANXF trending on Twitter to introduce the series to a wider audience. There are 6 issues left until the series is scheduled to come to an end. If we can raise sales and get Marvel’s attention, perhaps we can save it – or at least increase the possibility of the characters sticking around. We would also like to propose an “All New X-Factor Week” at some point in the near future; participation is encouraged to further spread the word.

This is such a huge bummer. Peter David’s previous run on X-Factor was one of the best Marvel titles of the last decade. And while All-New X-Factor hadn’t quite reached the heights of the last series, it clearly was building towards something great.

I’d been keeping track of the sales through Comichron and they’ve been pretty bad for most of the run. The latest sales records for August shows that ANXF only sold 21,352 copies. This also doesn’t bode well for Captain Marvel, All-New Ghost Rider, Secret Avengers, All-New Invaders, Elektra, and All-New Ultimates as they all sell less copies.

I think part of the problem why this book wasn’t successful was due to two reasons. First of all, it’s an X-book that doesn’t feature either Wolverine, Cyclops, or Storm. In fact the most popular character in X-Factor is Gambit, and his last series was cancelled not too long ago as was Astonishing X-Men that was the only X-Men title that featured him heavily. A team featuring Polaris, Quicksilver, Warlock, Cypher, and Danger wasn’t going to be the most popular.

The other big issue was the art. Carmine Di Giandomenico is not a very well known artist and his work is extremely stylized. It grew on me over time, but I can see why many readers would be turned off.

I was hoping the Axis tie-in issues would have helped the sales but clearly they weren’t enough.

Also for some reason Bleeding Cool is associating it with the fact that Quicksilver will be returning to the Avengers and that’s why the book is going away. No, it’s because not enough people are buying it. Which is exactly the reason they cancelled “Gambit” as well, so it’ll probably be a long time before he gets to star in another book.

All I did was write a book that got tons of positive write-ups. Which I guess is enough to encourage people to buy it when it comes out in trades, oblivious to the fact that books get cancelled when you do that. Whatever.

The Serval Industries concept could have had so much mileage. It breaks my heart that this book is getting the boot. I’m sure Gambit and Polaris will show up up in various X-books. Gambit would fit in perfectly in Amazing X-Men to pal around with Nightcrawler and Colossus, or maybe he could be a teacher at the Jean Grey School in Spider-Man and the X-Men. Polaris would fit in perfectly on the all female squad in X-Men, along with her former teammate Monet. Cypher and Warlock are always likely to show up any time there is a New Mutants revival. Quicksilver has the Avengers. Poor Danger is likely to be the one left behind..

I doubt Peter David will return to the X-Factor title again, which is the biggest crime. I’m sure he’ll continue to write random books. Spider-Man 2099 is a blast and I’m interested to see how he writes Deadpool in Deadpool’s Art of War. He continues to write the Marvel adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower, and his upcoming Phantom mini-series on Hermes Press looks very impressive. Unless Marvel and David want to revive the government sponsored team or the private detective incarnation, this might be the last time we see a David/X-Factor title.

I’m so sad about this.

Mainly the fact that people use that origin as THE origin ya know.

Ah, yes. Once I thought about it, I figured that’s what you meant. There may be a grain of truth to Jeannie. His life then and his wife might also be complete fiction. I think he’s probably damaged to a point where he really doesn’t know who the hell he was before that chemical bath. I prefer not knowing. Giving him an origin ruins the mystery.

The major issue I have with that origin is a lot of people use it as an excuse for what he does now, which is preposterous as well as showing they missed the entire point of The Killing Joke. The punch line is Gordon doesn’t go mad. He’s stronger than Joker. Joker thinks one bad day can break you and Jim comes out of it and he’s still Jim.
