sispurrier:

Today, with my publisher Boom! Studios, I break the news that I’m writing a comicbook adaptation of the official sequel to the classic 1982 movie, The Dark Crystal

Art will be courtesy of the truly spectacular Kelly and Nichole Matthews Here’s a little taster of the astonishing Jae Lee in action on the first cover:

I’ll be saying a lot more about this over the coming months. For now I’ll simply mention that the original movie – easy target for sneer-mongers though it may be – had a truly profound influence on me as a child. Dark, scary, rule-breaking, wondrous and utterly weird: I owe a large part of my enduring approach to genre, to world-building, and to what I understand of the collective perspectives of young people, to that movie.

Being able to go on an adventure in its wake is humbling to say the least.

An official but unproduced screenplay (by David Odell, Annette Odell and Craig Pearce) has been lurking around Hollywood for quite some time. There’s a lot of amazing stuff in it, and – gloriously, for me – I’ve been given lassitude to put my own marks, and perspectives, on the tale. It’s a thing of strange and terrible beauty, as “all ages” as it gets, and I can’t wait to show you more.

For now, here’s a creepy little reminder of where it all began.

Oooh! Happy news, indeed!
